Green Guidance: Interpretations and implications

The connection with nature and awareness of social justice issues are key elements that career counselors should consider when supporting the development of sustainable and resilient careers in the 21st century. Cultivating a sense of belonging to the natural environment enhances individuals’ commitment to professions that have ecological and social impact, thereby contributing to the formation of green and socially responsible professional identities.
At the same time, social justice promotes accessibility and inclusion within professional ecosystems, reducing inequalities and fostering conditions for fair participation (Donald et al., 2024). Integrating these values -ecological awareness and social justice- into career development not only strengthens personal well-being but also advances collective progress. In an increasingly dynamic and interdependent work environment, these values provide the foundation for careers that are adaptable, responsible, and aligned with the needs of both society and the planet (Vrettou, in press).
